1.硅整流发电机的工作原理
硅整流发电机是三相交流同步发电机，其磁极为旋转式。其励磁方式是在启动和低转速时，由于发电机电压低于蓄电池电压，发电机是他励的（由蓄电池供电）；高转速时，发电机电压高于蓄电池充电电压，发电机是自励的。
当电源开关接通时，蓄电池电流通过上方调节器流向发电机的励磁线圈，励磁线圈周围便产生磁通，大部分磁通通过磁轭和爪形磁极形成N极，再穿过转子与定子之间的空气隙，经过定子的齿部和轭部，然后再穿过空气隙，进人另一爪形磁极形成S极，最后回到磁轭，形成磁回路。另有少部分磁通在定子旁边的空气隙中及N与s极之间通过，这部分称为漏磁通。
当转子磁极在定子内旋转时，转子的N极和s极在定子内交替通过，使定子绕组切割磁力线而产生交流感应电动势。三相绕组所产生的交流电动势相位差为120°，所发出的一相交流电经只二极管=相全波整流后，即可在发电机正负接线柱之间获得直流电。
2.硅整流发电机的输出特性（负载特性）
当保持硅整流发电机的输出电压一定时（对12V发电机规定为14V，对24V发电机规定为28V），调整其输出电流与转速，就可得到输出特性曲线。当转速77达到一定值后，发电机的输出电流7不再继续上升，而趋于某一固定值，此值称之为限流值或最大输出电流值。所以，硅整流发电机有一种自身限制电流的性能这是硅整流发电机最重要的特性。
